Last Week!

First day, last day photo comparison!

"Open Mic Night"! A favorite and tradition at Global Treehouse!
Students work on their presentation skills by sharing short stories, reports, and other written pieces.
Oh yeah, we use imagination too! The chair is our stage and the microphone is real!
Love listening to stories that young students write. Funny of imagination, jokes, and animals!
Dolphins!
After writing an animal report, students made a diorama of their animal's natural habitat.
Tigers
Jellyfish

During a walk we found a caterpillar! What better way to study Science than observing a living thing!

Building a home.

Learning about different coins and how many make a dollar.

After learning about constellations we took our hand at making them with marshmallows and toothpicks!

STEM activity: Building a bridge out of tape and Popsicle sticks.

We worked with our hands and minds to build a device to keep an egg safe during the classic Egg Drop experiment!

Will your egg make it?

Nope!

Yes!

"You've finished one quarter of your reading book!" - I say.
He quickly runs up to the board and draws this without being asked!
Shocked teacher! I guess he does listen when I teach!

Finished first grade Language Arts!

Finished 2nd grade Math right in time!

Studying outside is one of the best parts of Spring!

Playing Yahtzee combines math and games!

Mad Scientist Party

While schools around the city are gearing down, the students at
Global Treehouse are entering a world of discovery!

The Mad Scientist's Party is a tradition here, but first, scan your hand for admission! Only those who have successfully completed science studies are allowed in the laboratory.

Congratulations! You have full access...your name will forever be written in our archives.
After donning their lab coats and protective eye wear the experiments begin.
Too often we deny students their sense of touch - an intricate part of learning, in an experiment we refer to it as the conclusion!
Ewwww! Elephant toothpaste?! Awesome.
The question - "I wonder "
the hypothesis - "I think"
the materials -"I need "
the conclusion -"I learned"
the result -"what happened?"
Let's jump to the result : they had a great time exploring the world of SCIENCE.

A child's wonder will propel him/her into a world of discovery, a life of possibilities.
And isn't it interesting how math seems to creep into every corner of the day? Measurement takes on new application.
Forget application! Watch this! Add an Alka Seltzer! It will be a lava light with great globs of colored oil swirling around ("that's because the water has more density than the oil...just in case you don't know")
Young scientists ALWAYS take it one step further. Art makes an entrance too, finding out what color you get when you mix colors.

Really?! There's a chemical reaction when you pour orange soda over vanilla ice cream? Ah yeah....just check out their smiles.
Cha ching! Success!

American Symbols

It's never too early to learn about American Symbols! After learning about the American Flag, Bald Eagle, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, White House, and Mount Rushmore students polled 60 people to see which was the most popular. Winner? Bald Eagle!

Zoo

No school year is complete without a field trip to the zoo! That was evident by how packed it was! So thankful we had a friend willing to come help!

Not only were we able to review what we've learned about animals, but students eagerly worked on their map skills too... which we've been studying in class! Eager students putting into action what we've been studying in school equals a very happy teacher!
