Merry Christmas

Kids are great examples when it comes to enjoying the little things in life. Out of the many Science experiments these students have participated in, simply placing candy canes in glasses of different temperature water and seeing the results has been one of the most enjoyed experiments this year!
This December we have been studying “Christmas Around the World”. This study perfectly combines geography, foreign languages, famous landmarks, creativity, reading, writing and imagination as students “travel” around the world with their "passports". Students learn about seven different countries, folklore and traditions that children participate in during the Christmas season.
We intentionally seek opportunities to challenge students, and strengthen the natural gifts they possess. As this second grader went through this study last year, she has been given an opportunity to help lead this class and strengthen her leadership skills. She is actively learning how to plan ahead as she reviews and prepares lessons, how to present information clearly and confidently, how to be patient when students get sidetracked, and mastering the content itself.
Reading the Italian legend of La Befana. La Befana was believed to be an old lady who delivered gifts to children in the hopes that she could find and bring her offering to the baby Jesus.
Happy Christmas from England! We're enjoying learning all about "crackers"! A Christmas cracker is a paper-covered tube. When the end tabs are pulled, there is a loud crack.
Inside the cracker, there is a paper hat, a small trinket,
and a riddle to read aloud to everyone at the table.
We centered our Christmas party theme around The Polar Express. Students came dressed in PJs, spent the morning playing educational games, enjoyed a fun lunch,
watched the movie and compared it with the book.

Warm November Day

How do we enjoy a 74 degree day in November? We study outside!

Recess Fun

We've been learning all about birds and nests in Science!

We have a nest right above our school door. How cool is that?

Trying to build a bird nest...

"This is MUCH harder than I thought it would be!"

Students gained a better appreciation and respect for birds through this activity.

"We'll leave nest building to the birds!"

Cells

It's "cell day" at school! There's no better way to learn about cells than building a fun model with jello!

This lesson fit in perfectly with our 2nd grade Language Arts class about following directions!

Chinese Tea Party

Nothing brings History to life like hands-on activities.
If we study Chinese porcelain and Chinese tea - we better have a tea party!
Thanks to our guest for coming and spending the afternoon with us and teaching us all about China!

Apple Sauce

No Johnny Appleseed study is complete without homemade apple sauce!
